The Storm - perusal_0001.png

The Storm

Choral, SSAATTBB, unaccompanied
Words by, MB Krueger, Misty L. Dupuis

I had the opportunity to visit my alma mater and sit observe my mentor in action with her choir. She was speaking to them about the repertoire she had chosen for their concert when she said these words, β€œThe storm will pass. You are closer now than you have ever been to being through it.”

There are times when it is a struggle to find the appropriate poem or just the right melody for a piece. Then there are times when inspiration strikes like lightning. This day, it was the latter. I was scribbling frantically as she was conducting, and two days later this piece was finished. Luckily, she was okay with me using her words!

This piece really turned into an anti-suicide anthem, but it is appropriate for anyone who is struggling.

Run Time and Level

This piece runs at about 3 minutes and 40 seconds. It was written for a collegiate level choir, but it could probably be performed by an auditioned high school choir as well.
