O, Frisco
for SAB chorus and piano
words by, Gertrude Millard (1872-1941)

Written for the Rhythm of Life Community Chorus in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and premiered on November 13, 2016, this piece sets the work of American poet and author, Gertrude Millard (1872-1941).

The poem, titled “Nostalgia,” takes a saucy, cheeky look at the city of San Francisco from her early days as a mining town to a more established metropolitan city. This setting, with its waltz-like rhythm, tries to evoke the nostalgic feel of the poetry. The poem is very lyrical and seemed a perfect fit for a choral setting.
