Flight of Opportunity
Orchestra
Grade 3
NASA Rover, Opportunity, arrived on Mars in 2004. Spending nearly 15 years active, Opportunity far exceeded NASA expectations for its mission and stayed active 60 times longer than anticipated.
Opportunity gathered data and photographic evidence for NASA to analyze. It traveled over 28 miles before a Mars dust storm caused the rover to become inoperable.
This work celebrates the ingenuity, drive, and determination of the NASA scientists who developed, launched, and remote piloted the rover.
Written for a high school in Wyoming, this piece runs at just over five minutes. It is a grade 3 work. Instrumentation includes: violin 1, violin 2, viola, violoncello, and bass.
