Christmas-Tree Magic
Choral, SATB, unaccompanied
Words by, Marjorie Booth (1919)
Little is known about poet and writer Marjorie Booth. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find even the most basic information about her. The poem, Christmas-Tree Magic, was published in American Poetry Magazine's November/December 1919 edition.
This poem is about the magic of Christmastime, and it speaks of tiny elves and fairies that live in the Christmas tree. They play with the bells and jump rope with the tinsel. Those things can only be seen occasionally by children. The grown folk believe the noises they hear to be singing from afar, but the children know better!
The whimsical poem deserved an equally whimsical setting. This uptempo piece employs many meter changes. The fairies dance throughout the melody, and the “dings” from the Christmas tree balls and the “swishes” from the tinsel are sprinkled throughout the piece.
This work has a short high soprano solo and a spoken word solo.
Run Time and Level
