Alleluia
Choral, SSAATTBB, unaccompanied
Alleluia! was started at the 2017 American Choral Director's Association National Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Several years before, when dealing with the death of a dear friend, I had found a choral piece that set the word Alleluia. I clung to that piece while I was grieving, and in many ways it became a “healing song” for me. When I spoke to the composer, he told me that he had actually written it as his own “healing song.”
In the winter of 2016-2017, I was very ill for a long time, and I was still recovering at the conference. I had to spend a lot of time by myself in the hotel room because I did not have the energy to do anything else! I decided I needed my own “healing song,” so I started writing this piece. It turned out nothing like I had anticipated, but it did help me heal. I poured what little energy I had into writing this piece, and it helped me to have an artistic outlet while I was recovering.
The final page may be used for worship services. It is reverent and contemplative. A recording is below.
